We use Native Ultimates kayaks, which are super stable they are perfect for photography. You sit on a comfortable webbed chair off the bottom of the kayak with an adjustable back rest. They are very comfortable kayaks and with your waterproof bag you should be fine. If you have, or have not kayaked before, we will always give you instructions and individaully set up each kayak for your needs and assign that kayak as well as paddle and life jacket to you for the remainder of the workshop. It is not nearly as hard as you might think. A friend that is a 73 year old retired priest finally tried one last summer after overcoming his fear. His reaction after about 30 minutes on the water? Where could he buy one!
Myself or staff will always launch and assist in getting out of the kayaks, no one is alloweed to launch themselves or get out on shore without assistance. If there is going to be a problem with kayaking it will be at those two times and we make certain that it doesn't happen.
Since kayaks give us great mobility, we can move around most of the day to find just the right spots. But we are never in a hurry. Rest assured you can paddle at your own pace. Starting in 2023 we are offering a boat only option so if kayaking is not your thing, rest assured we will still get you into some fantastic locations with our 24' fully equiped pontoon boat. When asked about level of fitness, easy would be likely the best answer.
Though we do not allow people to exit thier kayak on thier own, there are some places, if conditions are right to do so, we ask that you only dismount your kayak in the presence of one of your guides. Water level and softness of the bottom are two keys that determine when you can do that, and of course, finding the spot where you can get back in the kayak is important. If this is on your list to do, just bring your waders. And yes, we will gladly take that iconic shot of you photographing standing in the water among the fabulous cypress for your portfolio.
We transport all the kayaks and have them ready for you at our launch points when you arrive.
